2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
Rotary Club of Lowestoft East Point were pleased to welcome their 2022 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) candidate, James Bentley, to help on the traditional Santa Sleigh outings before Christmas.
A sum of just over £5000 was raised before gift aid for worthy causes thanks to the generosity of the Lowestoft public.
James helped both as a collector and as part of the counting team, taking time out from his vacation after his first term in higher education.
We asked him how RYLA had helped him to adjust to life away from his family home.
In his own words he said:-
“RYLA came at the perfect time for me as it took place just a month before I started my first term at the University of York. It was a tiring but exciting week and the experience itself couldn’t have prepared me more, as both my confidence and social skills improved greatly allowing me to feel much more comfortable with the transition to University. Since being at York, I’ve been able to make many friends with the skills gained from RYLA and as a result I would recommend the program to everyone who has the opportunity”.
Eastpoint have ringfenced enough funds to support a suitable candidate for RYLA 2023.
